Our comments on National Ferret Day

Our National Ferret Day Message

April 2nd is National Ferret Day, a day dedicated to celebrating these delightful pets. However, in California ferret enthusiasts are still struggling with the state’s ban on ferret ownership, and it’s a frustrating reminder of the dysfunction of California state government.

California politicians are more interested in catering to special interests and raising campaign funds than dealing with issues that they deem trivial. Ferret owners are regarded with derision and not considered important enough to warrant a change in the law.

Instead of making decisions based on science and logic, California lawmakers have allowed politics and special interests to trump the rights of pet owners. The ban on ferret ownership is a prime example of this dysfunction, as there is no scientific evidence to support the ban and many other states allow ferrets as pets without issue.

On National Ferret Day, we should remind California lawmakers that pet ownership is an important right, and that the state’s ban on ferret ownership is a reflection of the triumph of politics over common sense. It’s time for California lawmakers to put the needs and desires of their constituents ahead of special interests and take steps to legalize ferret ownership.

Ferret enthusiasts in California and Hawaii have long been fighting for their right to own these beloved pets. It’s time for lawmakers to listen to their constituents and make decisions based on science and logic, rather than politics and special interests. Let’s celebrate National Ferret Day by calling for a more thoughtful and inclusive approach to pet ownership, one that recognizes the benefits of pets to our lives while also being mindful of environmental concerns.
