Legalize
Ferrets

After all, they’re called Domestic Ferrets!

Petition 2025-003 — A Request for Science, Fairness, and Public Input

In Petition 2025-003, LegalizeFerrets.org formally asked the California Fish and Game Commission to review the long-standing ban on domestic ferrets under the Administrative Procedures Act.

The petition points out that ferrets are domesticated companion animals and that the current prohibition was inherited from early 20th-century import rules—never supported by modern, evidence-based findings.

Since its filing, the Commission has acknowledged receipt but has yet to schedule a hearing or apply the scientific and public-comment standards required by law.
We believe that the data are clear: domestic ferrets pose no environmental or public-health threat and deserve the same
legal recognition granted in forty-eight other states.

Our next step: we’re asking California legislators to send a simple letter of support urging the Fish and Game Commission to
review Petition 2025-003 objectively and finally bring science and transparency to this issue.
